Morellino di Scansano is a red wine from Maremma in western Tuscany. Sangiovese is the principal grape, with a bit of alicante and malvasia nera in the blend. This is an easy-to-drink, yummy red wine with strawberry and red cherry fruit interlaced with a bit of licorice and woody herbs. It is medium-bodied, with savory acidity and smooth, ripe tannins. Serve it with pasta with a sausage or meat sauce or a grilled steak.
Elisabetta Geppetti is a winemaker and the owner of Fattoria Le Pupille. She made her first wine here in 1985. She has improved and grown the property from its beginnings as a small wine farm with a few acres of sangiovese vines to a wine estate of 175 acres.
